Whether you become a Phone or Visiting Companion, a Coffee Talker, a Card Creator, or a behind-the-scenes helper — every volunteer plays a vital role in ending loneliness and isolation among older adults. For 50 years, Friends & Co has helped build friendships that support healthy aging and emotional well-being.

Why Volunteer?

As a valued volunteer member, you’ll join a community of people who share your passion for creating meaningful connections. Whether you’re a Coffee Talker, Phone or Visiting Companion, Card Creator, or behind-the-scenes helper, you’ll receive training, monthly updates through our Among Friends e-newsletter, and ongoing support from our team. Volunteering with Friends & Co isn’t just about giving back — it’s about building relationships, finding purpose, and becoming part of something bigger.

How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities

Be a Coffee Talker

Answer incoming calls from older adults looking for caring conversation.

Time commitment: One 4-hour shift per week for 6 months.

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Be a Phone Companion

Bring joy and connection through regular phone calls. You’ll be a warm, caring voice on the other end of the line.

Time commitment: Flexible, based on your and your match’s preferences.

Be a Visiting Companion

Build in-person friendships with older adults who may be isolated or lonely. You can visit at home, or wherever you both feel comfortable.

Time commitment: 1–2 visits per month, plus occasional phone, card, or text check-ins.

Be a Card Creator

Send handwritten, uplifting messages that brighten someone’s day. Create cards for holidays or join in-person events.

Time commitment: Seasonal batches + optional event participation

Be a Skills-Based or Admin Volunteer

Help behind the scenes with your time or expertise — graphic design, writing, organizing, admin support, or one-time projects.
