Evelyn is a warm-hearted, faith-filled woman who believes in kindness, forgiveness, and caring for others. At 93, she remains mentally sharp, full of wisdom, and grounded in gratitude. “I feel blessed,” she says, “to still have my mind and spirit strong.”
Evelyn raised eight children of her own—three girls and five boys—but in total, she opened her heart and home to 15 children, inviting in seven who had no one else. Today, her own children lead busy lives and don’t visit often, though a kind daughter-in-law, Venita, stops by when she can. Evelyn says she gave her all to her mother, who died in her arms. Her Mom’s final words—”Baby, speak your mind and stand up for your own, and when you’re wrong, take your blame”—still guide her today.
Born and raised in Mississippi, Evelyn has lived in Jackson, Belzoni, Chicago, and Minnesota. She’s worked many jobs—nursing homes, factories, hospitals, house cleaning—but her favorite was serving as an LPN. For thirty years, she especially loved caring for patients whom others overlooked. Her mother, a midwife, inspired her calling.
Although she now uses a walker and a motorized wheelchair, Evelyn enjoys going for short, gentle walks or, on a day when her legs are feeling better, taking slow, easy outings. She would enjoy chatting at home or taking a scenic drive.
She’s open to talking about “everything under the sun,” has a lovely laugh, a self-deprecating sense of humor, and a profound sense of compassion. She can be a bit difficult to understand due to a mild speech issue. Evelyn would enjoy the company of an open-hearted woman or man who shares her love of people, conversation, and faith. She is a non-smoker and does not have any pets, although she would love to have a cat.

Biography:
Julia is a warm, outgoing, and resourceful woman. An avid hot air balloonist, she has fond memories and stories of her days in the “basket” riding high above Scott and Dakota counties and crewing at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. Her charmingly decorated home reflects this adventurous hobby.
Now retired, Julia worked as a civil engineering technician in the then-male-dominated architectural arena, earning a consistent spot on the A-team. Her specialty areas included private homes, condos, townhomes, and golf course design.
Today, she enjoys gardening, jigsaw puzzles, larger Lego building sets, trips to the Farmer’s Market, and listening to her beloved Beatles.
Julia recently began to experience mobility issues, likely due to the onset of MS, and now relies on a walker she refers to as her all-terrain vehicle! Since the onset of her physical symptoms, she has found herself more lonely and isolated than expected and hopes very much to share a slice of life with a new friend.
Her parents, ages 93 and 94, live three hours away, and she can visit only with the assistance of siblings who lead busy lives with little room to include her.
Julia hopes to pair with a cheerful companion who is a lively conversationalist and a good listener. She is a non-smoker and has a beloved cat who hides from company.

Biography:
Born in Morocco in 1943, MB lived on the streets before fleeing his home city of Casablanca at 15. Arriving in Israel as a Jewish refugee, he was conscripted into the Israeli army and served in the 1967 Six-Day War, the Yom Kippur War of ’73, and the 1982 War with Lebanon. Today, he expresses grave concern over the hostility impacting the Palestinian and Israeli people, calls the politics of the day crazy, and, as a man of deep faith, wishes for peace and security for all.
For 30 years, MB lived on a Kibbutz and spent time in Gibraltar, Spain, France, Italy, Denmark, and Sweden. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese, French, Somali, Arabic, English, and Hebrew.
MB lives with his lovely wife of 32 years, Cindy, who is partially blind. In addition to four children, they have 17 grandchildren with whom they rarely spend time, but MB loves to tell stories about them.
MB would love to be paired with someone who enjoys exchanging life stories. Although his health is declining, he is very excited about being matched.
MB uses oxygen and prefers to visit at home. He is somewhat hard of hearing, so he appreciates people who speak slowly and clearly while looking directly at him. In addition to his lively personality, MB has a fascinating life story he would love to share, record, and have typed up. He would welcome a volunteer interested in helping with his storytelling goals. Though he rarely plays now, he loves Backgammon. MB is a non-smoker and has no pets.

Gloria has a huge heart and says love is the only thing that never fails. Her delightful personality reflects her kindness. Though she is alone 99% of the time, Gloria draws on making gratitude lists when she feels lonely, which raises her spirits. She is deeply empathetic and looks forward to learning about a new friend’s joys and struggles while listening with her heart. She honors reciprocity and boundaries in friendship.
Gloria has a loving family, including grown children who cannot visit often due to health challenges or work-related travel. She has four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Gloria was married for 39 years before her husband, Warren, passed away from cancer at the age of 57.
Some of her happiest memories are cheering on her grandchildren at their hockey games and family vacations to her mother-in-law’s ranch in Montana. Those trips were filled with laughter, fun, and love, as her mother-in-law was a cherished friend whose doors were always open.
Gloria used to sew enthusiastically, create beautiful scrapbooks, and now loves to explore crafting stores like JoAnn Fabrics to soak in colors and textures. She loves thrift shops, as well. Gloria still drives herself and enjoys getting out and about, though she uses a wheelchair and needs assistance loading and unloading it from her car. Back in the day, she loved swimming and dancing. Today, she cherishes reminiscing over photo albums filled with family and memories of her best friend of 62 years, Phyllis, with whom she shared lots of silliness and laughter.
Gloria is a non-smoker and has no pets but enjoys the company of cats and dogs. If you love crafting, chatting about books, singing, or simply sharing heartfelt conversations about life, Gloria’s companionship will brighten your day as much as you brighten hers.

Mary has spent her entire life in the Kensington area, where she was raised and where her parents also made their home. Over the years, she worked in both administrative and paperwork-related roles and also spent time at 3M in a factory setting.
Mary is the mother of four children and considers herself a quiet, thoughtful person. She is often content spending time with a good book rather than worrying about household chores. An avid reader, she especially enjoys romance novels, Christian literature, and mystery books, often reading on her Kindle.
Faith has always been an important part of Mary’s identity. She has participated in Bible studies with others and was involved in a cooking club and sewing club through a local church. While she still values these connections, it has become more difficult to attend activities since she can no longer drive. Transportation challenges have made it harder for her to stay involved in the community she enjoys, and she misses being able to participate as regularly as she once did.
Today, Mary is seeking companionship because life has become much quieter than it once was. Both she and her husband face significant health challenges. As she describes it, the two of them often find themselves simply sitting quietly together. Mary would love to build a friendship with someone who enjoys conversation and sharing everyday life. She likes talking about children and family, books, hobbies, faith, current events, and whatever topics naturally arise. She is looking for a friend who is available when she needs someone to talk with and someone who can offer conversation and connection during this season of her life.

Doris is an easygoing, gracious woman who grew up in a Chicago neighborhood, where family was at the center of everyday life. Born to Geneive and Claude, she shared a special bond with her brother, Howard. With grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins living nearby, some even on the same block, Doris enjoyed a childhood filled with laughter, companionship, and family traditions. Holidays and long summers brought relatives together, and there was always fun to be had.
One of Doris’s favorite stories is how she married her next-door neighbor, Conrad. As children, Conrad teased her and called her names, but everything changed when they met at a dance when Doris was 18. The pair married a year later, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted more than 55 years.
Doris and Conrad raised two children, Sandi and Paul. She reflects on how fortunate they were to have family guidance, encouragement, and helping hands when their kids were young.
As empty nesters, Doris and Conrad moved to Burnham, Illinois, a friendly community. Following retirement, they relocated to Portage, Indiana. There they volunteered at a local food shelf, a meaningful experience that led to a special friendship. They became close with a family of seven who welcomed them as honorary family members, and Doris found the sister she always wanted in Sharon. This family meant so much, especially with Paul living in California and Sandi in Minnesota.
Doris treasures family, friendship, faith in others, and helping people. She enjoys sharing stories, reminiscing about cherished memories, and getting to know new friends. A volunteer who hopes for warm conversation and meaningful connection will find Doris a delightful companion. She looks forward to visits at home and occasional trips to the dollar store or getting out and about.
